Kate Farms Standard

What is Kate Farms Standard?

Kate Farms Standard is an organic, plant-based nutrition formula that you can drink or use for tube feeds.

Like all Kate Farms products, Standard is vegan-friendly and free of major food allergens.

The Standard is nutritionally similar to the Peptide formula, but the Standard provides intact or whole pea protein rather than pea protein peptides.

Peptides are smaller chains of amino acids and are more easily digested than whole proteins.

Standard comes in two calorie densities — 1.0 and 1.4 calories per milliliter.

The more calorie-dense 1.4 formula is better suited if you require more calories, struggle with a poor appetite, or have an intolerance to high-volume tube feeds.

The Standard comes in three flavors — Plain, Vanilla, and Chocolate.

Here’s a nutrition breakdown of the Standard 1.0 and 1.4 Chocolate:

Protein16 grams20 grams

Both the Standard 1.0 and 1.4 provide similar amounts of vitamins and minerals and a blend of plant-based compounds that provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

The Standard formula comes in a reclosable carton that you must refrigerate and use within 24 hours of opening.

It’s best served chilled for drinking as a shake but administered at room temperature for tube feeds.

For tube feeds, it can supplement the diet or be used as the sole source of nutrition.

Summary

Kate Farms Standard is an organic, plant-based nutrition formula that you can drink or use for tube feeds. It’s available in two calorie densities — 1.0 and 1.4 — and in three flavors — Plain, Chocolate, and Vanilla.

Benefits

Whether you plan to drink it or use it for tube feeds, Kate Farms Standard offers many benefits.

Hypoallergenic

Standard uses only organic, plant-based ingredients.

It’s free of major food allergens, including milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soy — making it hypoallergenic.

Many nutrition drinks and formulas rely on milk and soy protein, but Standard uses hypoallergenic pea protein, a high-quality source that may offer similar muscle-building effects to milk protein (1).

Standard is also free from artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, and additives, to which some people may be sensitive.

Nutritious

Standard is a nutritionally-complete formula on which you can rely solely to meet all your nutrition needs.

This makes it suitable if you must get all or some of your nutrition through a tube feed.

You can also drink Standard as a meal replacement, and because it’s reclosable, you can grab it and go.

Standard also provides some fiber from agave inulin to promote gut health and support healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

What’s more, Standard provides extracts from broccoli, green tea, turmeric, tomatoes, blueberries, and cinnamon, among other fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

These extracts are rich in beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols, which offer potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Summary

Kate Farms Standard is hypoallergenic and nutritious. You can rely on the formula as your sole source of nutrition for tube feeds or enjoy it as a meal replacement.

Downsides

The primary downsides of Kate Farms Standards are its high cost and low availability relative to other nutrition formulas.

Cost

Standard costs between $51–$72 per 12-pack case or $4.25–$6.00 per carton.

This cost is much higher than some of its competitors including Ensure and Boost.

However, comparing Kate Farms with its competitors isn’t a fair comparison since Kate Farms relies solely on organic, plant-based ingredients — which aren’t cheap.

Kate Farms also uses no artificial sweeteners, flavors, or additives, which its competitors often do. This also increases costs.

So while Kate Farms is indeed more expensive than its competition, Kate Farms Standard uses more costly ingredients that, depending on your preferences, intolerances, or allergies, may be well worth the price.

Availability

Unlike its competition, Kate Farms Standard isn’t available in big box stores or retail pharmacies.

This may be a downside if you prefer to get your groceries and medications or supplements in one place.

The best place to purchase Kate Farms Standard is directly through their website.

You can also find the formula on Amazon for around the same price.

However, you can get free 2-day shipping by ordering through the Kate Farms website as well as a 10% discount if subscribe to receive recurring orders.

Summary

Kate Farms Standard is more expensive than its competitors but it isn’t necessarily a fair comparison since Kate Farms relies on more expensive ingredients. Purchasing Standard is also limited to online, which may be inconvenient or unpreferred by some people.

Taste review

Formulating tasty shakes that rely on plant-based ingredients only isn’t easy.

This is especially true for Kate Farms since they rely on pea protein, which many people describe in unflattering terms.

However, in my opinion, Kate Farms does a decent job of reducing the flavor of peas and the other ingredients present.

I tried the Standard 1.4 Chocolate, which has a chocolate-pudding aroma, bold dark chocolate taste, and a grassy aftertaste.

The grassy aftertaste was slightly more prominent than the Kate Farms Chocolate Nutrition Shake.

Kate Farms Standard 1.4

While I haven’t tried the Standard Vanilla flavor, I have tried Kate Farms Vanilla Nutrition Shake, which has a butterscotch aroma and a vanilla bean taste with a moderate grassy aftertaste.

Because the Vanilla Nutrition Shake is nutritionally similar to the Standard 1.0, I would expect the taste to be as well.

Standard 1.4 provides more calories and fat than the 1.0 so it may have a thicker and creamier texture.

Summary

The Standard 1.4 Chocolate has a chocolate-pudding aroma, bold dark chocolate taste, and grassy aftertaste.

The bottom line

Kate Farms Standard is an organic, plant-based nutrition formula that you can drink or use for tube feeds.

It comes in two calorie densities — 1.0 and 1.4. The more calorie-dense 1.4 is better suited if you have higher calorie needs, struggle with a poor appetite, or tolerate low-volume tube feeds better.

Standard is nutritious and hypoallergenic, but it can be costly with lower availability than its competitors.
